Our mission is to increase youth turnout in Texas by building up a new generation of civic leaders.
Texas is the second youngest state in the US but ranks near the bottom for youth turnout. Texas laws that require voters to re-register when they move, hold voters to strict ID requirements, only allow for on-paper first time voter registration, and require voters to register at least 30 days before an election in order to participate, disproportionately affect young Texans who move more frequently, are less likely have to valid ID, and have had less time to register.
At Cornerstone, we believe that cultivating youth civic engagement lays the foundation for healthy democratic involvement and governance. We envision a Texas that leads the nation in youth voter participation, and we know that young Texans are the most effective advocates to encourage their peers to join them in voting for their future.
